Words of the Loom privacy policy
This policy covers Loom, the word game, on the web and as the Words of the Loom app on Google Play.
Last updated 4 November 2026 · Ελληνικά
Loom is a word game. This page explains what it stores, where, and how you can remove it. In short: your progress stays on your device unless you use the online features, and nothing is sold, shared with advertisers, or used to track you.
On your device
Your game progress (levels, coins, tapestries, Lexicon, settings and your chosen name) is saved in your browser’s local storage. It never leaves your device unless you use the online features below. You can erase it any time with Profile → Reset all progress.
Online features
When you open Community, solve a daily puzzle, or link an account, Loom signs you in to Google Firebase, which stores this data on Google’s servers:
| What | Why | Who can see it |
|---|---|---|
| An anonymous player ID | To keep your online data together | Only the game |
| Your name, friend code, level, chapter, streak, Lexicon size and latest tapestry | Your public profile for friends and circles | Other players |
| Daily and weekly puzzle results (hints, bonus words, time) | The results boards | Other players |
| Your friends list | Showing your friends’ progress | Only you |
| Gifts you send and receive | Delivering gifts | You and the recipient |
| Weaving circle membership and stitches | Shared circle tapestries | Other players |
Linked accounts and cloud save
If you link a Google account or an email address, Firebase Authentication stores your email address (and, for Google, your Google account ID) so you can sign in on other devices. While you’re signed in, a copy of your game progress is saved privately so it can be restored. Only you can read it. Passwords are handled by Firebase and never seen by Loom.
Error reports and abuse protection
If something goes wrong in the game, an error report is sent so it can be fixed: the error message, where in the game it happened, your language, your browser and device type (user agent), and your anonymous player ID. Reports are kept for up to 90 days. To keep the results boards fair, Firebase App Check may use Google reCAPTCHA to confirm that requests come from the real game; Google’s privacy policy covers what reCAPTCHA collects.
Supporter packs
On the web, supporter packs and coin packs are paid through Stripe. Your card details and billing email go to Stripe, never to Loom. Loom passes Stripe your anonymous player ID so a payment can be matched to your game. Stripe’s own privacy policy covers what it stores. Prices, delivery and refunds are in the terms of sale.
In the Words of the Loom app from Google Play, they are paid through Google Play, and Google handles the payment under its own privacy policy. Loom receives only which product was bought and a purchase token.
Either way, Loom keeps a record of the purchase (the product, the payment reference and the date) in your saved game, and in your cloud save if you linked an account, so what you bought stays unlocked.
Optional ads
You can choose to watch a short ad for coins or a hint; ads never play on their own. These ads come from Google AdSense, which may use cookies or device identifiers to show and measure ads, and in the EU asks for your consent first. Google’s privacy policy covers what it collects. Supporters never need to watch ads.
Google and its partners may use cookies to choose ads based on your earlier visits to this and other websites. You can turn off personalised ads in Google’s Ads Settings, and read how Google uses this data in How Google uses cookies in advertising.
What Loom doesn’t do
- No analytics or tracking tools, and no ads you didn’t choose to watch.
- No selling or sharing of your data with anyone other than Google Firebase, which runs the online features, and Stripe when you buy a supporter pack.
- No access to your contacts, photos, location or microphone.
Deleting your data
In Profile → Account → Delete my account (or Delete my online data), Loom permanently deletes everything listed above: your profile, friend code, friends, gifts, results, circle membership, cloud save and sign-in. Progress on your device can be cleared with Reset all progress.
No longer have the game? Email the.real.zafi@gmail.com with your friend code (or the email address you linked), and your online data will be deleted within 30 days. Error reports are deleted automatically after 90 days, or sooner on request.
Children
Loom isn’t directed at children under 13, and online features shouldn’t be used by them without a parent’s permission.
